"It would have all been OK if it wasn't for that guy Donovan!"

Apparently, it all started sometime in the late 1980s, after a gig in Newcastle.

Roadie Joe, tired after another night on the road with Larry Licks, accidentally climbed aboard the wrong tour bus.

Instead of the usual Larry Licks rock ballad album playing through the bus speakers, something rather different caught Joe's attention.

An upbeat pop song.

Joe's ears pricked up.

"Who's this?"

Joe asked the driver.

The reply:

"Kylie Minogue."

And that was it.

Joe was hooked.

It might have been pop rather than rock, but there was something about that voice that caught Roadie Joe's attention.

💌 THEN CAME THE MESSAGE...

By this point, Joe had already written his first letter to Kylie.

Then Kylie's next single came along.

"Got to Be Certain."

Joe was listening carefully when he heard the words:

"Won't you wait for me..."

Joe looked at the radio.

Then, apparently, everything suddenly made sense.

"She's talking to me."

Nobody else on the bus seemed to think so.

Joe wasn't interested.

As far as he was concerned, Kylie had heard from him and was telling him to wait.

From that moment on, Roadie Joe became convinced that perhaps Kylie's songs contained messages especially for him.

Nobody has ever been able to persuade him otherwise.
